Situated at the foothills of the beautiful Waaihoek Mountains, where the interplay between snow and sun causes picturesque scenery as the seasons change. It is the art of reading nature combined with the science that enables the making of wines of distinction.
The cellar has an annual capacity of 34000 tons and produces 25 million litres of wine. Althought the cellar produces a large volume of wine, the emphasis is always on quality and a large portion of the cellar’s production is exported the Europe, the UK and other parts of the world.
Botha Kelder offers an excellent selection of well-crafted wines under the ‘Botha Kelder’ label. The range consist of high quality, accessible red and white wines as well as more serious reserve wines and delectable full sweet fortified wines.
The Cellar’s Chardonnay Brut, sparkling wine is a fusion of elegance and zest. The popular Dassie’s range consisting of Dassie’s Rood, Dassie’s Blanc and Dassie’s Rosè are produced for everyday enjoyment.
Botha Kelder, one of the leading cellars in South Africa with some 35 farms, is part of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI). The goals are to minimize the further loss of threatened natural habitat, and to contribute to sustainable wine production.
On the priority farms alone Botha Kelder conserves some 1776ha of the endangered veldtype, Breede Alluvium Fynbos.
The critically endangered Geometric Tortoise occurs only on a few farm properties in the Boland. The survival of these animals is in the hands of conservationist-minded owners who follow good land management practices on their properties.
The Biodiversity & Wine Initiative of Botha Kelder has appealed to all interested parties to work together to ensure the survival of this rare tortoise specie so that our children can enjoy them in their natural environment.
