BREEDEKLOOF – Much more than a wine route
How much fun can you have on a wine route? Well besides the expected offering of quality wines and hearty country food, we also throw in majestic mountains which combine with vineyards and sparkling rivers to create a natural playground offering healthy outdoor fun for mountain bikers, runners, 4×4 enthusiasts, birders and fly-fishermen.
Not to mention our hot springs, stunning Fynbos hikes and warm hospitable people who are passionate about winemaking and the valley in which we live. We are just an hour from Cape Town, along the N1, but with all we have to offer it’s not surprising that many of our visitors turn their day trips into over-night stays.
PERFECT MARRIAGE OF WINE & OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Our region offers so much more than just superb wines, as every year this spectacular natural playground attracts thousands of mountain-bikers, birders and hikers.
Fancy a spot of bass or fly-fishing? Well the Breedekloof also offers access to some of South Africa’s best fishing spots along the sparkling Molenaars, Elandsjacht and Smalblaar rivers.
Saddling up and taking a guided horse-ride through the vineyards is a treat for young and old,
TEAM BUILDING, CONFERENCES, WEDDINGS
Looking for an unforgettable teambuilding exercise in a breathtaking natural environment? Well we can host teambuilding getaways or conference groups from 10 to 1 000 delegates. The stunning setting is also ideal for a winelands wedding.
BREEDEKLOOF IS CONSERVATION CONSCIOUS
It’s official – we still have majestic leopards roaming our mountains. The Cape Leopard Trust has taken stunning photos of leopard, fox, spotted genet and other nocturnal animals that call our valley home.
Of course these beautiful creatures want to live here: we are home to the first conservancy in the Western Cape wine region, and have partnered with organisations such as the BWI (Biodiversity Wine Initiative), CapeNature and LandCare.

FRUIT OF THE VINE
Our region consists of 27 wineries from the Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini and Breede River areas, and there is something for everyone as they range from small boutique wineries to estates and large cellars.
Talented winemakers produce new-world style wines which are upfront and complex, yet well balanced. White wines produced include cultivars such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier, with wine styles ranging from dry to semi-sweet. Red wine cultivars include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Malbec & Barbera. Our red wines offer either typical red & black berry characteristics or spicy and peppery flavours, with intense colour and soft tannins. Wine styles vary between full and complex barrel matured wines, to fruity, easy-drinking blends.
Our winemakers regularly bring home lustrous medals from premier local and international competitions, and we tend to dominate whenever wine enthusiasts consider the unbeatable combination of quality and value.
WITH FINE WINE GOES FINE DINING
All that outdoor adventure can build up quite an appetite, which means you get to experience our restaurants, bistros and coffee shops which offer country cuisine in elegant surrounds with breathtaking views.
WHERE TO STAY
Breedekloof is only one hour from Cape Town, but our visitors have so much fun that they usually want to experience more than just a day trip. So we happily offer them accommodation at one of our diverse range of venues which include everything from picturesque camping and caravan sites, to self-catering chalets, B&Bs and luxurious guesthouses. Most are situated among vineyards, on the banks of the Breede River, or in the mountains surrounded by Fynbos.
